You can now market your presence in the Netherlands with a name ending in .co.nl. A fifth of all registered country code domains have recognisable .co.xx addresses as the active accepted top-level domain. Some examples of this are .co.uk in the United Kingdom, .co.kr in Korea and .co.nz in New Zealand – all these all internationally popular domain extensions which the people who live in these countries use without thinking whenever they search for information on the Internet.
.co.nl domains are not meant to replace .nl domains, but to exist alongside them as valuable complementary domains. Studies show that people living in countries which only use .co.xx domains tend to look for information under a .co.xx address most of the time. Boost your chances of attracting visitors from India, the UK or some of the other 45 or so countries that already use .co.xx domains.
.co.nl domains are open to companies and private individuals without any need for a local contact. The launch is taking place via a staged process known as Sunrise. Landrush with rush comes next followed by General Launch.
Sunrise (two stages)
1. Grandfather period, 18 November 2008 – 15 January 2009
Owners of already registered .nl domains are given priority when it comes to registering the same name under a .co.nl domain.
Make the most of your opportunity to use your right of first refusal while you can!
2. Trademark period, 10 February – 26 February 2009
.co.nl domains which are not registered during the Grandfather period can be requested by the owner of the trademark during this period. If more than one application is received for the same name, the domain will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Don’t forget to register www.yourtrademark.co.nl
