Since 2003 .se domains have been open for registration. The new registration rules meant that anyone had the opportunity, regardless of nationality, local contact or activities in Sweden, to register a .se domain. However, it was decided that the geographical names would be reserved for five years. Thereafter the decision would be re-considered. When the policy was reviewed this year the decision was taken to also release the geographic domain names for registration.
We also want to remind Swedish municipalities to before 16th of December 2008 register and secure the geographic domain names that are considered important, before the reservation of geographical names expires and open registration becomes effective.
