Cybersquatting - Has anyone registered your domain name?

Cybersquatting is when a domain name identical to or confusable with a trademark is registered by someone other than the rights holder.

The number of users, companies and trademarks active on the Internet is constantly growing, which means there are more trademarks and more goodwill to be taken advantage of and more consumers to mislead. The Internet is an excellent breeding ground for anyone wanting to benefit from someone else’s goodwill or mislead Internet users to their personal advantage: it is cheap, it is easy to be anonymous, it is quick, and it is all at the expense of someone else’s trademark. This often happens completely without the knowledge of the trademark holder or his customers and business partners.

A well thought-out and clear domain name and trademark strategy allows you, to a certain extent, to stop this happening. One of the most important weapons in the fight against cybersquatting is active monitoring. The aim of monitoring is to detect an infringement as soon as possible. This facilitates rapid action against the infringement − preferably before customers and business partners detect it and before any damage has occurred. Read more about these services under Monitoring Services, and read more about your options when you have been subjected to cybersquatting under Acquisitions and Dispute Resolution.
