SSL certificates

An SSL certificate can be likened to a digital ID: it contains your domain name, company name and, in certain instances, your contact details.

When you connect to a domain that uses an SSL certificate, a secure connection is created, which means that a unique key is created for this specific connection and that traffic will be encrypted. Serious issuers of certificates will check that your company exists, who owns the domain name and that you are authorised to apply for an SSL certificate.
