Sweden - Register your trademark

Applications for trademark registration in Sweden must be lodged with the Swedish Patent and Registration Office.

Sweden applies the principle of official examination of relative obstacles, i.e. the authority reviews previous rights to check that your trademark is not confusable.

When the trademark has been registered it is published in the trademarks journal, Svensk Varumärkestidning, after which there is a two-month period for objections, which means that previous rights holders can object to your trademark if they think it is too similar to theirs. If no objections are received the registration will gain legal force. The registration will apply for ten years before it needs to be renewed.
